People locked away in the prison system have very few opportunities for fairness, compassion, or hope. Advocacy takes bravery to take risks doing something we have never done before by offering grace to people we see as human beings and others see them as unworthy beings.
Offering fairness, compassion, and hope to people so they can come out better on the other side from a system that is designed to break them, devastate their souls, and deny them basic human decency becomes tricky, keeping that same system from doing the same to us.
